How To Turn Off Your Brain After Work
Having a hard time turning off your brain at the end of a workday? When you’re immersed in your work it can be tough to stop and close out the day.
You’re wondering have I done enough for the day, how can I wrap up when there’s so much to be done, and how can I stop my mind for ruminating on work while I’m with my friends and family after work.
Here are 3 tactics to help you turn off your brain:
1.Establish a work closing practice
I love teaching this gem in my goal setting and achievement program, Implementation Lab! At the end of a workday or working session, wrap up your day with a set of consistent actions that close out your current projects. This may include jotting down a quick list of where you left off on a project so you know where to pick up when you sit down tomorrow. Or, your work practice can simply include packing up your laptop, clearing your desk, or powering down your computer.
2. Shift your environment
Get from behind your desk, change rooms, or go outside. This shift signals to your mind and body that a transition is occurring, and it’s okay to close out and move on.
3. Get physical
Move your body. Try a short walk outdoors or a chair yoga sequence. This relieves the tension and stress of the workday from your body and mind, shifts your focus, and wakes up your energy.
